Renovation plans! (are sweeter in marriage!)

We have decided to renovate parts of our apartment this spring. It’s time to repaint the whole place again and we are buying some new pieces of furniture. Thanks to great renovation work Derek did before we even got together, this apartment doesn’t need much work anymore. The room that will undergo the biggest makeover is our living room , and I’m so excited!

I’ll share a sneak peak into our new furniture with you:Image

See the low sideboard on the left? And the high-board partially hidden behind the table? We’re getting them ūüėČ We already own a dining table from the type of wood that matches the sideboards. In case anyone is wondering where this furniture is from, it’s from Mondo, Toledo line. We also have a huge beige couch, which will get new covers. I spent a few hours this afternoon drawing and cutting out¬†a realistic portrait of our living room in 1:10 dimensions. I’ll show it to you later ūüėČ

And like I said, in marriage making such planes is so much nicer than just living together (which we never did, by the way), because you know both are here to stay and you can play your future together without insecurity!

Hugs from me!

New eco cleaning products

Hi there! I’m so happy that I finally started replacing old cleaning products from Derek’s bathroom cupboard¬†with ecological ones, one at a time. This was one of the things I said I would make sure of in our household: use only ecological, nature-friendly cleaning products.

I needed to wait til the old, opened ones were finished. It could’t have come at a better time that Bipa, Austria’s popular drugstore, introduced a green cleaning line, BI GOOD! I stole a¬†picture online, I’m sure they won’t mind ūüėČ

I like it because they have an entire line, also cleaning pads for dishwasher and detergent for the washing machine. All packaging is made our of recycled material and is recyclable. And the best thing: it’s very cheap! I spent under 10‚ā¨ for 3 cleaning products. Here is what I got:

I already tested the “bad reiniger” and it smells great! Such an improvement from my old toxic cleaner… I almost choked each time. Not to even mention what a damage to environment, since it all goes down the pipes and into the rivers!

I feel so “green” right now! ūüôā I encourage everyone to start using ecological cleaning products! They work just as fine and they don’t damage the environment. If you do some searching, I’m sure you will be able to fine affordable ones.

See you later!

Back from Germany

Home sweet home! It feels so nice to be back, although I loved every bit of our experience with drone project in Germany. Unfortunately I can’t say more here, since we were working for a non-profit organisation that will use the pictures and videos internally. I worked as Derek’s co-pilot & spotter (=the person who operates the 2nd remote control and flies¬†without goggles, always keeping the drone in sight), which was¬†my first official co-piloting! And it will not be the last one…

It was the busiest week in our marriage so far, and we came back completely exhausted! Our day started at 7 in the morning and finished at around 10 in the evening, since after work we were always out with team members and other nice people we met, making plans and sharing experiences. It was almost sad to leave, but we will be back soon! Yes, we are going back to Germany this summer, this time even further up north! Very exciting!!

Here is a pic of me during one of the team meetings, looking “professional” ūüėČ

Have a nice evening everyone!

He’s so fine or The start of our love story

Today I’m responding (for the first time)¬†to Daily prompt from WordPress’ Daily Post, which is asking: What was it that drew you to your significant other? Their ginger countenance? Their smile? Their voice?

And here is my answer.

I had already been drawn to Derek before I actually met him. No, I wasn’t his secret admirer, nor is he some sort of a celebrity.¬†It was a warm December afternoon and I was going to a dinner party hosted by a friend of my friend, without the slightest of interest to¬†meet someone. But my attitude¬†changed when the host¬†mentioned a¬†male guest who was about to come next. My interest grew with every piece of information:¬†an American, is bringing food, plays the guitar, loves U2, is fun. I was¬†intrigued and curious to meet the person behind this description.

When he entered, the first thing I noticed was his height. He was taller than everyone else around him. And indeed he brought food, Italian food! He also had a different wine for the lasagna and the dessert, which I liked very much. A gourmand, like me!

A very positive first impression was already formed. But the following really got me. We all laid down on the floor and watched a video screened on the ceiling he made with his remote-controlled airplane. It was a video of the snowy mountains. It felt like flying and I was completely amazed. Of course, the soundtrack was U2, one of my favorite bands. You can see the video here:

So there it was. He was international, tall, fun, and intelligent. I was hooked, although it took me much longer to actually admit it to myself. But it was definitely enough to promptly reply to his email when it came, which opened the way to discovering all of his many other beautiful and interesting qualities. And I’m so happy I replied to that email, because it led me to marry the best man in the world.

How men think Louis Vuitton is really just a name

The un-glamorous life of our Louis Vuitton toiletry pouch

The thing is, we have a Louis Vuitton cosmetic bag in our house (or should I say, he has), which is not really serving its purpose. At all. Let me tell you how that is so.

I still remember when me & Derek were not¬†dating yet and I came to his place with friends for the first time. It didn’t take me long to notice the LV pouch sitting on his couch. It was a weird sight. Derek with a LV bag? He didn’t seem like the guy who would care about such a thing as brand names. As I found out later, he really didn’t and still doesn’t.

But the cosmetic pouch was original, not fake, as I confirmed by carefully inspecting its label. But the best (or the worst) part came when I opened the bag. Here is what I found inside:

LV markers

Markers?! Seriously?!

And his shameless (or shameful, as you take it) explanation: “Yes, this is my pencil case. I use it for studying.”

“Do you have any idea how much this thing costs?! It’s Louis Vuitton!”

“Louis what?”

And this reminds me of the scene from “Leap year” film, when Matthew Goode¬†laughs at Amy Adams because she named her suitcase “Louis Vuitton” and he found it ridiculous that she was so concerned about its safety. ¬†They ended up getting married. Well, now I’m married to a guy who puts markers in his 280‚ā¨ toiletry pouch. ūüėÄ

It turns out that he didn’t actually buy the “pencil case” himself, he thinks he got it from an auntie, although he is not sure.

Since the big discovery, I tried to change LV’s un-glamorous fate twice: once I used it according to its purpose, as a toiletry pouch, and the second time I tried it out as my nail polishes pouch. It didn’t work out. I missed seeing Louis Vuitton on our couch, it makes for such a nice accessory. And, of course, where else would we put our markers?¬†
