Weekend with family

I can’t say how happy it makes me when my family comes for a visit and stays the entire weekend! Since I live in Austria and they in Slovenia, we can’t see each other every day. But we try to make it as often as possible, at least once a month.

Sometimes, distance makes you appreciate moments together even more.

We had such a wonderful, sunny weekend. My mom and me arranged our little balcony garden (it was a lot of work though for that little piece of ground!!!), we took walks in the city, went for coffee and pizza, and mainly just enjoyed being together.

Can’t wait ’til we see each other again, in the mean time these pictures will have to do 🙂

Have a nice day everyone! xoxo

1st Wedding Anniversary: 7 Gift Ideas

This Sunday, Derek and I will be celebrating our first wedding anniversary! It feels strange to say that. I honestly find it hard to believe we have been married for a whole year!! Time just flies by. If you’re not married yet, you will see. Especially the first year is like that -full of change and excitement, adaptation and discoveries.

I have already received a gift from Derek, a dog 🙂 It came early, but a puppy couldn’t wait until October 12 🙂 And I couldn’t be happier with Rooney. Otherwise, The first anniversary traditionally suggests a paper gift. As inspiration, I’m posting some paper gift ideas bellow.

1. A card. If it comes with a gift or is a gift in itself (nothing is sweeter than a romantic note), a card goes well with any anniversary celebration.

2. A (framed) photograph, a huge wall decoration photograph, or even a photo book! If you still don’t have enough wedding pictures around your house, now is the time to change it! If you live in Austria, ifolor. (www.ifolor.at) has a promotion for photo books and other photo products with the code BONUSCARD6. You receive 30% off. It’s valid until 1st of March 2015.

3. A pretty print. If your partner likes art, they will love a print of their favorite artist’s work. I myself love Catherine Campbell’s. She is Australian and makes amazingly beautiful designs. Or if your better half possesses artistic skills, you could frame their artwork and hang it in the hall -imagine the look on their face when they see it!

4. A book. You can’t miss with a good book if your love is a bookworm. Make sure it’s one they haven’t read yet to make it a great surprise. Another idea is to offer a special edition of a book from their favorite author. Even if they have read the book three times already, they will be happy to add this special edition to their bookcase.

5. A journal or a planner. Still a book, but an empty one -to fill it all out with married life’s adventures! Since it’s gift, a journal should be very pretty and a planner good quality. For her: a romantic, embellished, and full of details Daphne’s diary, available at bookstores and online at http://www.daphnesdiary.com. For him: Filofax Pocket Gray Malden. If gray is not his color, they come in browns and blacks too (and many other color for that matter).

6. Magazine subscription. Is he into surfing, motorcycles, computers, or music? Is she a fashionista, is interested in sports, animals, or in beauty? (I know, talking clichés here, but you get my point) A monthly magazine in the mailbox will remind him or her of your thoughtful anniversary gift for a whole year to come.

7. A ticket. What kind of ticket? You decide! It could be a concert of popular or classic music, a ballet show, or even an airplane ticket to somewhere nice and romantic (or cool and adventurous). If you’re on a budget, a train ride can be very old-school romantic. End the ride with a picnic on the countryside or a winetasting. Guaranteed that ticket will not be easily forgotten!

Here were only some of the ideas. And if you like this tradition and find it cool, go for it. It can certainly be fun. I hope these tips help you choose your next gift. Do you have any ideas for the first wedding anniversary?

Motorbike for weekends

I guess not many of you know that Derek and me own a motorcycle. When I posted a picture on IG yesterday with a yellow Yamaha, some of you were wondering who it belonged to 🙂

We decided to keep it when we got married because we like making short rides to the lakes or around in the countryside. I know many who sold their motorbikes after marriage, but I think it’s fun to keep it as long as you take precautions. I don’t like dangerous fast riding and tight curves and neither does Derek. It’s cool to have a ride and there is another advantage: motorbikes are not charged parking fees at public lakes 😉

This picture nearly cost me a burn on my leg because I forgot the muffler was still hot… luckily nothing happened…

Things that make a marriage cool: Doing sports together

Spending quality time with your partners brings you closer together, but if that quality time includes doing sports, you kill two birds with one stone! How so? Well, doing sports together has many other cool benefits.

  • Improves your looks. Do you want to look your best and stay attractive to your partner? Exercise is the answer! Don’t take your partner’s admiration for granted. Of course, a marriage should be based on deeper qualities than physical appearance. Still, looking after your body will make you look your best, increase your confidence, all of which will make you very attractive to your partner.
  • Has health benefits. It is known that doing sports lowers the risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and osteoporosis. Not only physical health, mental health benefits greatly from doing exercise. It relieves us of stress, is relaxing, and boosts happy feelings. It can also positively affect self-esteem.

There are so many sports you can do with your partner, some are even more fun if you do them together!

My suggestions:

winter and summer sports

Our personal favorites are skiing & snowboarding, jogging, beach volleyball, and windsurfing. These are the sports we do together most often and are most passionate about. Of course, some people are disabled or suffer from chronic diseases or advancing age that prevent them from engaging in vigorous exercise. However, even such couples can benefit from doing light exercise. That can mean just going for a walk in the neighborhood. It’s better than sitting at home in front of the screens all day!

Getaway in Italy

Finally we managed to get away for the weekend, and we drove to our (becoming traditional) “nest” in Grado, Italy. We so needed to unwind and chillax 🙂 In addition to laying on the beach (if it’s warm enough), we were hoping to do some windsurfing (if it’s windy enough). And we were lucky with both! Such a great little vacation!

On Sunday there was crazy wind, and our beach became was crowded to the last spot with kite surfers and windsurfers. I only went in the water in the morning, because the wind was too strong to be out there without a harness (which I still don’t have). But Derek stood out there pretty much the whole day, and right at the end he busted my sail -yes, he was surfing with mine, because the wind was too strong for his huge 7 meters. I was very disappointed because I was really looking forward to going again the next day when the wind calms down. So we decided to fix it ourselves with tape and a sturdy shopping bag! 😀 I tested it the same morning and it held perfectly well! Good thing I’m not ashamed of going out with a piece of shopping bag on my sail 😉 I really don’t care, as long as it goes.

We celebrated our 7 months with a nice dinner in the old town. It was also our 2 years of being together! We got married on the 12th of October 2013 and we started dating 12th of May 2012 🙂 ❤ ❤
